Canada Study Visa Documents from Gujarat: Complete Checklist

Every year, thousands of students from Nadiad, Anand, Kheda, Vadodara and across Gujarat apply to study in Canada. Most refusals don’t happen because the student is weak. They happen because the file was incomplete or the documents didn’t tell a clear story. This guide covers what you need.

1. Identity documents

  • Valid passport. Make sure it has enough validity for your whole course, and include copies of old passports with visas or stamps.
  • Recent photographs that meet IRCC’s size and format rules.
  • Name consistency. Your name should be spelled the same on your passport, marksheets, IELTS/PTE score, bank records and Aadhaar. Gujarati names are often spelled differently across documents, and officers notice this. Fix it before you apply.

2. Admission documents

  • Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a Canadian Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
  • Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) from the province where you will study. Most applicants need one, though some groups (certain master’s and PhD students at public institutions, for example) are exempt. Your counsellor can confirm your case.
  • Proof that your tuition deposit was paid, if the college asked for one.

3. Education documents

  • SSC and HSC marksheets (GSEB, CBSE or other board)
  • Degree certificate, semester-wise marksheets and transcripts, if you studied further
  • Diploma or ITI certificates, if relevant
  • Any gap in your studies needs a written explanation with proof, such as a job letter, salary slips, a course certificate or a business registration. A gap is acceptable when it is honestly explained.

4. English test score

IELTS or PTE results that meet your college’s requirement. Many colleges accept around IELTS 5.5-6.0 or PTE 60, but this differs by college and program.

5. Proof of funds (the most important part)

IRCC wants to see that you can pay for tuition, living costs and travel for your first year. Check the current living-cost amount on IRCC’s official page, because it is updated regularly. Commonly accepted proof includes:

  • A GIC from a participating Canadian bank
  • First-year tuition payment receipt
  • Bank statements (usually the last 4-6 months)
  • An education loan sanction letter from an Indian bank
  • A sponsor’s documents and a funder’s letter

Documents Gujarat families commonly use for sponsors:

  • Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the last 2-3 years
  • Business proof such as GST registration and balance sheets
  • Salary slips and Form 16
  • Fixed deposit receipts
  • Agricultural land records (7/12 and 8A) and property papers
  • A clear source-of-funds explanation. Officers increasingly want to see where the money came from, so sudden large deposits without explanation are a red flag.

6. Study plan or SOP

Write your own story: why this course, why this college, why Canada, how it connects to your past studies and your future in India. Generic or copied statements are a major cause of refusals.

7. Other documents that may be required

  • Medical examination from an IRCC-approved panel physician
  • Police clearance certificate, when requested
  • Biometrics at a visa application centre
  • Marriage certificate and family documents if a spouse or children apply with you
  • Translations (with certified copies) for any document not in English

Common mistakes to avoid

  1. Showing funds that suddenly appeared in the account a few days earlier
  2. Choosing a course that does not match your education or work history
  3. Submitting blurred scans or incomplete pages
  4. Hiding a previous refusal. Always disclose it honestly.
  5. Using an agent who promises a “100% visa”. No one can guarantee this.

Start early

Some documents, like police certificates, tax records and bank letters, can take weeks. Begin gathering them as soon as you decide to apply.
